International Barcamps: a European Network (Barcamp Bodensee)

Welcome to a new google group: International Barcamps.

It was founded to promote barcamps friendly to international users, to figure out best practices for thos camps and to help get the word aroud on camps that will adjust to visitors not speaking the local language.

We discussed certain international issues in the session
- barcamps.org just is pull
- the barcamps.org international mailinglist has a global scale
- camps in Switzerland, germany, Alsace , France and Austria use diferent means to communicate to their visitors
- big camps in France or elsewhere are only in the native language of their area (Barcamp Berlin is an exception)
- Barcamps in smaller countries (like barcamp Kopenhagen) suffer from a smal visitor base that could be profiting from visits from neighbors
- we need a network to talk about best practices and tell each other about planned camps
- we would like to tell our natonal audences ablout camps worth visiting who are friendly to international visitors
- or focus is mainly European but we sure extend our invitations to organizers bordering on Europe

So if you want to do international camps or wouldlike to help the word around in your country or community: please join.

Basic set for best practices (tbd):
- the organizing language of the camp is English (for wiki, messages and in real life)
- whenever a visitor who does not speak the local language is present in a session it will be in English
- the camp is to be promoted in several (neighboring) countries

Barcamp Bodensee 2010 #bcbs10- Countdown

Barcamp Bodensee starts tomorrow evening and lasts till Sunday 18:00.

I just booked my train ticket for tomorrow and will be there from around noon. stop by and help us set tings up ;) )

We have really great and helpful sponsors (after we first really struggled), check the out on the web page.

We will have a free city tour Friday at 16:00 (a first?)
We will have a get together with processo, grilled sausages and cocktails (!) and beer and softdrinks Friday at 1830.
We will have 30 free beds (no breakfasts ;)) and breakfast for all on the barcamp site at HTWG at 9:00 on Sat and Sunday.
We will have up to 50 free BIKES (carbon reduction, yay) again as in 2008.
We have a great logo and the coolest barcamp POLOS to date. (with a stitched logo!)
We will have great wifi (I hope ;) ).
We will have comprehensive 'all U need 2 know' infosheets (and double sided nametags).
We will have a great get together on Saturday (again with drinks & food) and even coffee and cake in the afternoon, a wine tasting as a last session Saturday.
We will hopefully have many BC newbies (welcome).
We will have a jobboard - as the crisis is OVER ;) ...
and we will have late night werewolf-Sessions, who would have guessed.
We will have excellent weather. (Ok, rain on Sunday but that is only because we will be sad to leave bcbs - and to make it easier to say goodbye and to wash away some of the tears ;)

And of course:

We will have ample interesting and enlightening, educational and fun sessions and many rooms - if they are not enough we can open up an extra LEVEL of rooms ;)

And we will have a bunch of new friendships all across Europe and some more people in love... with Lake Constance ;).

We will have barcampers from France (even Paris, yay!), Denmark, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Austria and Germany (afaik).

BCBS is the second barcamp in Germany that is truely international besides the barcamp in Berlin:
Whenever a session is attended or held by someone not speaking German the session language wil be English. The Camp-Orga-Language is English.

We are one tiny step closer to the dream of a 'Barcamp in the Middle Of Europe' where we all exchange handshakes, and smiles and knowledge and dreams about what we want to do with internet and society alike.

We were not really successful in getting people here from GB, Italy, Spain, The vatican (kidding), eastern neighbors, BeNeLux and the rest of Europe or even the US. I am afraid my energy did not last that far.
But I hope we can re-live and re-vive the spirit of 2008 and inspire more people to help along with this dream so that it will become a dream of all of us.

We had a wifi crisis, a coffee crisis, a beer crisis, a 'roof over the head if it should be raining' crisis, a 'too early curfew crisis' and the team really killed all of those.

Special thanks to Patric, Patric and Patric, Ute, Martin, Harald, Thomas G&K, Stephan, Susanne & all the others, who jumped in, supported the project all the way or sometimes did only the tiny thing at the right time when it was really really really needed. Thanks to all of you if you jusnt lend a hand during these 2 days whenever it is needed.

OK, happy campers, let's barCAMP.

10 Proven Ways to Identify Yourself As A Twitter Spammer

10) Follow several accounts of the same person within a short perioid of time. Preferrably those accounts that are not even used for tweeting.

9) Unfollow everyone within 24 hours who follows you back by mistake after you followed them. (How could they be so naive?)

8) Send a meaningless auto-DM after somebody followed you. (Use this text please: "Thanks for following, I will follow you back.[you already did, I followed you back, remember?] Looking forward to your tweets.")

7) Have a nickname with a number. Or better: Have an nickname comprised of a female name and a number. Preferrably an implied birthdate in the very early 90ies.

6) Have a nickname that is not a word or name. (Can't find any in my followings, I either blocked them already or they have already unfoillowed ;) )

5) Have a nickname that has "buy", "money", "dollar" or "rich" in it and combine it with the above: DollarLucie1991 #ftw

4) Don't show your face on your avatar, show a logo or better a naked female body (if necessary: the face of an attractive blonde) from some free image gallery or stolen from the web.

3) Don't react if anyone sends you an @ message.

2) Twitter only and exclusively about 'get thousands of followers for free schemes', credit cards and free ebooks on becoming an social media expert. If you have no idea about those you can maybe automatically reweet people who do already figured it out. Buy my free e-book to see how. (Joke. Ha.)

1) Have everything (like: following by keyword and unfollowing 6 hours after a follow) on autopilot, several retweetbots for your stuff and only feed your account with the RSS from your spamblogs on blogspot. Watch my free video workshop on how to... ok, kidding again.

Bonus Track:
Make sure to mention that you are a Twitter expert in your short profile.

If you do all of the above steps normal tweeple have a much better chance to block you quickly ;) Thanks.

PS: Yes, we have these guys in Germany, too. Argh.

PPS: Best thing to do is to report these accounts as spam. (And to spread this text ;) ) Thanks.

Sinon consultez mon anglais svp. ;)

Now the English subtitles. (I promise to keep blogging in French at a minium ;) )

The definitely most beautiful logo for an interntational Barcampo in Germany come from Stephanie. THanks a lot. (We already had the most beautiful T-Shirt last year in Furtwangen.)

Sacha Lemaire also helped to find Stephanie and to make BCBS10 known in France.

We hope to see many French and international visitors in Konstanz this time around.

Cu there ;)
