Stowe Boyd helps out Sixgroups go international: Integrated Live Communities

Posted by Oliver Gassner • Tuesday, July 22. 2008
Stowe Boyd, one of the Web 2.0 Rock Stars helps out German startup six groups to conquer the international event space.

Sixgroups, which is based in Hamburg, is offering site-based communities as plugins to existing webpages (there is a six group integrated in this blog). Sixgroups provide all kinds of elements like a shoubox, twitter integration by keywords (above you see all twits that have 'oliverg' in them, for example), forums etc all flows into a "livestream" (no video ... yet ;) )

As with Ning: If you have one "Six Groups ID" you can log into all other SGs and share your contacts. And more: you can even connect a groups of sites you own under one live community.

In "six groups" I specially like the idea that they kind of said good bye to the idea of a web page. Ok, there is sixgroups.com, but the real action in on the overlays (and Widgets) they put in the pages of their customers.

Like Crowdvine "six groups" is ideal for events, and it is even better cause it fullly integrates with the existing website and lets your visitors stay yon your page. And of course you can project the event's livestream on all screens in all session rooms...

And of course events in SixGroups can also show up in FriendFeed ;).

Rumor has it that Stowe was so impressed with 'six groups' when he saw it in May at the next 08 event in Hamburg that he was only to eager to work with them.

Well I got this info early and promised not to blog it till today at 1430 (but I am not at my desk at the moment). So I just can link at the 6G-Blog and hope you'll find more details there.

Barack, komm nach Vaihingen/Enz (Open Letter to Mr. Barack Obama)

Ja was denn SONST?

Und wenn deise Siegessäule so sch**** ist, ja dann reisst sie halt ab.

Ach, weisste was:

Dear Barrack Obama,

if Berlin does not want you, come to the market place of "Vaihingen an der Enz".

We are a town with 20.000 inhabitants about 45 minutes by car from the airport of Stuttgart (don't get mixed up with Stuttgart-Vaihingen, that's not us). I can pick you up a the airport, so you don't lose the way ;)

Our market place has a great old fountain that was set up directly after World War II from donations of the citizens after the old fountain had been destroyed in the war.

It has a lion on top (Africa!) and has the inscription "Don't let the sun set over your quarrels." meaning: "Don't go to bed before you made peace. Don't make war forever."

I guess this would make a great motto for a speech and win you the election. (It's far cooler than this winged elf thing in Berlin that this Hitler person had set up.)

If you wanna come: Just tell me. I won't tell anyone. Then security will not be an issue. And half an hour before you come we'll just call everybody out of their houses andn get all the schoolkids to attend. This is a small town ;-)

I can warn the mayor if you so wish.

See you soon,

Oliver

YouAre: Twitter-Killer of This Weekend

Posted by Oliver Gassner • Saturday, July 19. 2008
I am not yet a memeber of YouAre (UR?) (I applied for beta.Access of course ;) ) but what the inquisitr writes sure soundsd interesting:

YouAre combines Twitter, Tumblr, Linkedin, Del.icio.us and the sites “secret ingredient” (their definition). At the basic level YouAre offers 140 character limited short messaging, complete with user profiles, support for @replies and DMs, and the ability to follow friends. The next layer of YouAre (and that’s the best word I can use to describe the feature sets) is Pownce and Tumblr like. Users can share video or pictures, although notably the site doesn’t offer hosting of either at this stage.

The next layer goes off into an unexpected tangent: LinkedIn style professional bios, including support for schools attended and work experience. Layer four takes us into what they describe as De.licio.us territory, but it’s part FriendFeed; yes, users can import external feeds into YouAre, although at this stage the choices are limited to De.licio.us, Flickr and YouTube.

But wait, there’s more! because YouAre also supports manual geolocation, so you can connect with others within your same area, based on the location based in your profile, or if you were visiting somewhere it’s as hard as placing /country/city after YouAre.com.
